was late or early are documented by unpunched cards and blank photographs.( Hsieh and Heathfield, 2009, 107-158) When asked about the experience Hsieh explains that he had to concentrate so hard on the time that he could do little else. It was difficult to even hold conversations with people as it was easy to become distracted and lose tract of time.( Hsieh 12 / 06 / 16). In his work Hsieh illustrates his concept of life as wasting time or what he also refers to as“ Life as Life Sentence” by using the tools that have been devised precisely to control and avoid the wasting of time.
In this performance Hsieh makes himself very busy just by marking and documenting the passing of time. The repetitive and durational aspect of the performance make patent the patience that Blanchot talks about.
Hsieh explains that as an artist making his durational pieces felt good even though they where works that demanded incredible mental strength. For him it felt better to do that kind of work that not doing it. Hsieh hasn’ t made any artwork since his last piece that ended in1999. He explains the reason behind it is that he doesn’ t have any ideas that he deems good enough and so he chooses not to create anymore. However he says“ this is not easy”.( Hsieh, 12 / 06 / 16)
