Waiting is usually associated with slowness and stillness and according to Martin Esslin, when waiting we“ experience the flow of time in its purest, most evident form”( Esslin, 2001, 51).
In a capitalist society where‘ if time is money … then speed is power’( Virilio, Cited in Cull Ó Maoilearca, 2012, 194), then having to slow down or stop and wait till one is able to get up to speed can be a difficult thing.
It can be a cause of great anxiety.
