During early 1900's, Henry Ford applied in letter and spirit Frederick Taylor's work, The
Principles of Scientific Research, which talked about simplifying a task and training an
employee on it until she masters it to get optimum results. Ever since then, the ways in which
we train employees have undergone metamorphosis. The word training has morphed into
learning and development, and even the methodology of imparting knowledge has seen
impact of time. From the time when employees were trained to do their work better, learning
opportunities is now one of the top 5 cited reasons for deciding a future employer.
In this era of digital transformation, the threats, of not being able to provide developmental
opportunities at the right time and in the right manner, are very real. The pressure is rising.
The repercussions, of not adopting learning systems and processes to meet the aspirations of
the millennials, are so grim that they have inspired many organizations to step-up their L&D
game.

hence, bound to fail.
Millennials
need
on-
demand and quality content with content library which includes not only functional trainings
aimed at in-role effectiveness but also, courses aimed at upskilling behavioural skills,
leadership skills and well as improving their hobbies and over-all life quality are preferred. Who
doesn't want work-life balance?
There were those early rustic learning management systems which tracked the number of
employees who had undergone compliance trainings like Information Security, Code of
Conduct and Prevention against Sexual Harassment to name a few. Sometimes they were
