Robert browning,
born on 7 May 1812 in
Camberwell was the
son of Robert
Browning (Sr.) and
Sarah Anna
Wiedemann
Browning. He was
born to a middle class
family but was
supported in his
journey on becoming
a poet. The love story
began with him being
a fan of Ms. Elizabeth
Barrett’s works (and
who’s to say not the
poet herself?) and
this admiration was
not just one-
sided. Ms. Elizabeth
herself acknowledged
his existence as she
included in her Poems
(back in 1844), lines
praising Browning,
who eventually wrote
to thank her in
response (January
1845).
Presumably, this is
when the two began
to see each other with
Browning visiting the
sickly Elizabeth. The
story continues with
Ms. Elizabeth having
a controlling father
who refuses to let Ms.
Elizabeth to marry
which placed a
challenging obstacle
for the lovebirds to
further their
relationship. But it
was not the ending
the two settled for.
Sometime after
Browning exposed to
us why he couldn’t
put a ring on Ms.
Elizabeth, the two
were reported to be
missing. Ms.
Elizabeth’s father’s
response was to make
a public
announcement of
cutting Ms. Elizabeth
