Before the child was born,
however, Wordsworth had to
go back to England to earn
money to support his family.
He returned to London with
every intention of marrying
Vallon once things had settled,
politically and financially. But
life had other plans for
the English poet.
After finding out that his family
was finally going to receive a
large sum of money that was
owed to his father years ago,
Wordsworth had decided to
ask Mary Hutchinson, a close
childhood friend, to marry him
insetead! Wow, that took an
unexpected turn! According to
him, he needed someone he
could trust with the sudden
large income and Mary was the
perfect choice for it.
In 1802, Wordsworth, along
with his dearest sister, Dorothy
traveled to France so that he
could meet his daughter
Caroline and make
arrangements for her support.
After straighten everything out
with Vallon, William and Mary
were
married in a quiet ceremony
and the couple had five
children over the next eight
years, including daughter
Dora, who was a frequent
inspiration for Wordsworth's
poetry.
Love sure works in some of
the most mysterious ways.
One minute you love person A
and the next minute you marry
person B! It seems absurd but
that was the reality for English
poet, William Wordsworth.
Still Wordsworth proved to be
a man who kept his
responsibilities towards
Vallon and he also had his fair
share of pain and happiness
with his wife and kids. As
tragic as his home life was
after that- with the death of
his children and what not, one
thing is for sure: This was still
a better love story than
Twilight!
