It is a work of art!
Oscar Wilde is still in a distressed relationship with his publisher, the Lippincott's
Monthly Magazine as one of the editors had deleted roughly five hundred words of
Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray” before its publication without his knowledge in July
l.ast year Fearing the story was indecent, the magazine's editor made a decision to delete
some of the work without Wilde’s knowledge. And despite that censorship, The Picture of
Dorian Gray still offend the moral sensibilities of British book reviewers even until today
In response, Wilde has aggressively defended his work from the press, saying that it is a
work of an art. The writing talks on Dorian Gray who is the subject of Basil Hallward’s
new mode in his art as a painter. Along with Dorian and Lord Henry’s meeting.
Wilde gives an extra care to “The Picture of Dorian Gray” because the three characters of
the story were reflections of himself:
“ Basil Hallward is what I think I am: Lord Henry is what the world thinks of me: Dorian is
what I would like to be—in other ages, perhaps. “
It talks on aestheticism and duplicity and it was
written from the third point of view; Wilde as the
narrator. Wilde pleads to the mass and the Arts and
Literary Association to view his work piece from the
literary perspectives and would not judge it badly. He
says that he will continue his style of writing despite
of the provocation. we hope that your work will be
accepted by the society nd for you to continue
producing great works
