THE MEDIATING ROLE OF PERCEIVED
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT IN THE
RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONAL
VIRTUOUSNESS ON ORGANIZATIONAL
Identification and Employee Performance: A Study Among Nurses
The aim of this study was to examine the effect of organizational virtuousness on
performance and organizational identification levels and mediating role of
perceived organizational support in these relationships among nurses working in
public, private and university hospitals. The data of this descriptive and
methodological study were collected from 416 nurses working in five (two public,
two private and a university) hospitals in December 2015- January 2016.
Participant information form, Organizational Virtuousness, Perceived
Organizational Support, Organizational Identification, and Employee Performance
scales were used to collect the data. Descriptive, correlative, psychometric
analyses and Structural Equation Modeling were performed for the data analysis.
Most of the participants were female (88.7%), staff nurses (84.6%) and graduated
from bachelor degree nursing education programs (53.4%). Mean scores obtained
from scales by the participants were calculated as 3.71 (SD=0.99) for
organizational virtuousness, 3.25 (SD=1.12) for perceived organizational support,
3.52 (SD=1.00) for organizational identification and 3.91 (SD=0.70) for employee
performance. It was found that correlation coefficient value between
organizational virtuousness and employee performance decreased from r=0.61 to
r=0.27 (p0.05) via mediating role of perceived organizational support. Goodness
of fit indices were found as x2=76.00, df=22, RMSEA=0.077, GFI=0.96, AGFI=0.92,
CFI=0.98, IFI=0.98. According to the results perceived organizational support
assumes full mediation on the effect of organizational virtuousness on
organizational identification and partial mediation of organizational virtuousness
on employee performance levels.
