TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGY OF ADAPTATION PROBLEM AND SCHOOL FEAR Examples from the process Example 1 - Turkey Example 2 - Turkey MAGIC BOX The child is asked to imagine a box in his mind. "This box will be your magic box. It's unbreakable. You are standing a little further and the box is in front of you. Now walk over there; there is a cover on the box. The box is locked. Open the lock and remove the cover. Now this box is ready to pick up everything that scares you. You can put everything that scared you in the box. Now close the box tightly and lock it. You can send this box far away from you (to the moon or you can bury it). Your fears are so far away that you can be comfortable now. MAGIC HERO Teacher says: I want you to imagine a hero. This will be your hero. He or she will always protect you and be nearby whenever you want. Give him/her a name and this will be your safe word. When you say the safe word he will be with you and help you in any situation. Can you draw a picture of him/her?" While the child is drawing, the teacher talks about the child s fear of going to school. The drawn picture is saved in the place chosen by the child. The child knows that their hero will be there for support whenever he/she is needed. This method is used to make it easier for children with school phobia to adapt to the school individual or in group activities. It can be useful for fear of going to school or any other fear like an animal phobia, monophobia etc. This technique makes the child more confident when entering new and unusual atmosphere. It provides spiritual relaxation for the student and develops his/her self-esteem. This technique can be applied to children who experience all kinds of fear. Children with school phobia can be engaged in individual activities to create a level of comfort with the school. This technique accelerates the child s process of adapting to unfamiliar situations, provides spiritual fulfillment and develops self-confidence and imagination. This technique is effective in improving individual happiness and positive emotions and thoughts. 44
