My Country Scrapbook: Ethiopia Jun. 2013 | Page 3

The definition of a developing country is a country that is poor and whose working citizens are mostly agricultural workers but that wants to become more advanced socially and economically.

In Ethiopia, about 80% of the workers have jobs in agriculture. This is clearly most of the working population, but agricuture accounts for less than half of Ethiopia's GDP. The current government has embarked on a program of economic reform, including privatization of state enterprises and rationalization of government regulation. While the process is still ongoing, the reforms have begun to attract much-needed foreign investment. This is proof that Ethiopia wants to become more advanced socially and economically. Despite recent improvements, with an exploding population, Ethiopia remains one of the poorest nations in the world.
