BUTLER MASONRY
Brick by brick , Butler Masonry played an important role in making The Beacon Recreation Center in southeast Arlington a reality .
The Arlington company , led by brothers Kevin Butler and Merrick Butler , worked as a sub-contractor for Sundt Construction on the voter-approved recreation center . The Beacon , which opened last year at Webb Community Park , offers a variety of indoor and outdoor amenities and programs for visitors of all ages . Butler Masonry ’ s work can be seen throughout the two-story , 36,000-square-foot facility , from the locker rooms , to the brick and stone exterior , to the nearby skate park .
City Adopts Formal Minority Woman Business Enterprise Policy , Establishes Office of Business Diversity
The City of Arlington is committed to promote and encourage greater equity for the Minority Woman Business Enterprise ( MWBE ) business community . Certified MWBE firms will have full and fair opportunities to bid on goods and services for the City , whether providing supplies for the animal shelter and recreation centers or building new streets and sidewalks in our neighborhoods .
The City Council recently adopted a Minority Woman Business Enterprise Program and established an Office of Business Diversity as part of the City ’ s efforts to increase participation with minority and woman-owned companies as suppliers , prime vendors and subcontractors . The City views these Council initiatives as steps to reduce race- and gender-based barriers that limit MWBE utilization on contracting and procurement opportunities .

The Butler brothers are second-generation business owners , having taken over their father ’ s masonry business in 2006 .
“ We always stand behind our work and what we do . Arlington has been a great city for us to do that in ,” Kevin Butler said .
