Waste Audit at IAD
The Airports Authority initiated development of the waste plan through an airport-wide waste audit . The waste audit sets a baseline for Municipal Solid Waste ( MSW ) composition and waste streams at the Airport .
The waste audit scope included waste collected from airside and landside areas under the direct control of the Airports Authority and areas over which the Airports Authority has influence . The Airports Authority janitorial , airline , and concessionaire stakeholders provided waste samples from airline administration and break areas , inbound domestic flights , public passenger areas , security screening checkpoints , restrooms , restaurants , and retail areas .
The Airports Authority conducted a Waste Audit in October 2022 as part of the Airport Recycling , Reuse , and Waste Reduction Plan required by Federal Aviation Authority ( FAA ) for airports conducting a master plan .
