Stormwater Management and Stream Restoration
The Airports Authority ’ s water quality program meets the Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Stormwater quality and quantity requirements as part of the construction work .
The Authority has completed construction of 25 stormwater management facilities as part of the Metrorail Silver Line project . These facilities include bioretention , constructed wetlands , grass channels , swales and a cistern . The facilities filter water from approximately 240 acres and remove nearly 150 lbs . of pollutants from stormwater runoff per year .
In addition , the Airports Authority completed a stream restoration project along the Dulles Toll Road . The restoration project reconstructed a stream to stabilize the roadway and banks to eliminate streambank erosion and sediment migration .
