Rental Car Contracts
GO GREEN hybrid / electric vehicles
In an effort to reduce fossil fuel use , the Airports Authority has introduced contract requirements for Reagan National and Dulles International Airports ’ Rental Car operators to support Green Initiatives .
In 2022 , the Dulles International Airport Rental Car Contract requires that each operator provide 3 % of hybrid / electric vehicles as a percentage of their overall annual fleet .
All Dulles International Airport Rental Car providers are currently exceeding the contract requirements for availability of Green Vehicles , based on figures submitted in their Monthly Certified Statements .
Electric Vehicle ( EV ) Charging Stations
The transition to a fleet of vehicles that runs on alternative energy sources and an increase in the number of EV charging stations at airport parking facilities have begun . In 2022 , 46 EV charging units were installed at Reagan National Airport and 30 EV charging units were installed at IAD , increasing the total space serviced at both airports is 133 . At Reagan National Airport , 83 of the 103 EV chargers have use monitoring software . The remaining 20 have been purchased and will be installed in spring 2023 .
Electric Ground Support Equipment ( eGSE ) charging stations
As part of the Voluntary Airport Low Emission ( VALE ) initiative at Washington Dulles International Airport , 112 new eGSE vehicle charging ports will be installed , using single port and multiport units .
Phase I is currently under construction for 48 eGSE Charging Stations , a total of 11 new units have been installed at Concourse C / D and 16 were replaced in the United Airlines Baggage Basement in 2022 . Phase II includes 32 Dual chargers , serving 64 spaces , and is currently under design .
