My friends (Leah Navin, Derri McKinnon, Milly Flanagan), family (Molly, Nigel and Imogen Malcolm) and I (Saibh Malcolm) went to visit Madra for my 12th Birthday. We had been there before and really enjoyed our visit. When we arrived at Madra we could hear all the dogs excitedly barking and we couldn’t wait to get started. We walked five dogs, Bowie, Skully, DD, Kiki and Picky. We all love dogs and felt sorry that so many of them didn’t have homes. The dogs are so much fun and we discovered that some of them like lots of cuddles and some are a bit scared.
We wanted to help, so we decided to do a Madra Fundraiser at school. We asked our teacher Mr. Kneafsey if it would be okay and he thought it was a great idea. I emailed Madra and they sent me some flyers. So on the 22nd of February we held a fundraiser at Kilroe National School, Headford Co. Galway. Everyone brought in cakes and cookies and muffins, and at 13:20 the fun began. The youngest children in our school came into the hall first and were really excited looking at all the yummy things on the tables. Then our parents arrived and in no time at all most of the cakes were sold! Altogether we raised €431.26.
My friend Derri McKinnon adopted a dog from Madra. Ace is his name. He is a lovely big, black dog. Madra dogs are special, some of them have come from loving homes, others may not have been so lucky but to be given such good homes and to have such nice owners is an amazing gift for a dog!
