"The River" - Madilyn Frick
The river lured.
The river called.
Some blame the witches on the edge of town.
Some blame the heathens, who could not be found.
Some shook a stick to the gods of old.
Others blamed it on tales yet to be told.
The beauty of the river was such a curse,
Those who were beckoned left in a hearse.
The river knows,
The river is wise.
The river commands,
And the river demands.
Don't sell your soul to the depths below,
For the river decided your fate long ago.
The river has been since the dawn of time,
And will be around for all of mankind.
