Justin Kelly '13 performed with the
Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra at
the Meyerhoff Opera House. The Baltimore
Symphony Orchestra announced the
creation of the Baltimore Symphony Youth
Orchestra, its first youth orchestra, in May
2012. The Baltimore Symphony Youth
Orchestra proudly carries on the legacy of
the 35-year-old Greater Baltimore Youth
Orchestra. BMHS Campus Minister of
Mission, Dr. Van der Waag, joined Justin's
family at the Meyerhoff to listen to the
Orchestra perform Scheherazade, Op. 35,
composed by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
at the Kennedy Center. Julia Smith '14 was accepted
for the Ailey School's Summer Intensive Program
into the Professional Program Division for 2013 in
New York City this summer. This is Julia's second
year as part of the Pre-Professional Program.
Ms. Julie Marchick and Dr. Robert Van
der Waag, were married on April 20,
2013 at The Dahlgren Chapel of the
Sacred Heart of Jesus on the campus of
Georgetown University.

Four junior students presented on March
12, 2013 at the Archdiocese of Washington
(ADW) Academic Symposium. Jahnai
Bryant '14 presented, "Visual Art: The
Embodiment of Liberal Arts" on the same
panel as Thomas Page '14 who presented,
"Deus Ex Proskenium: Theatre and Religion
History." Elana Geary '14 examined the
Elizabethan playwrights: Shakespeare,
Johnson and Marlowe in a presentation
titled "The Bard and His Peers." Kimberly
Weaver '14 presented on "The Long Road
Ahead for Republicans," following the
completion of the fall semester class,
Contemporary American Politics.
Alisha Peek '14 will attend the Alvin Ailey
School's Professional Division this summer
in New York on scholarship. She is the
recipient for the second consecutive year
of a Special D.C. Scholarship for the 2013
Summer Intensive Program at the School,
which is offered to a select group of very
talented dance students who reside in the
Washington, D.C. area and is funded by the
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Gala
Briana Oates '13 earned her Girl Scout Gold Award
on May 12, 2013 with a project titled: “Grow Your
Wild Oats”. The project focused on the importance
of healthy eating and gardening. She implemented
her project at Shepherd’s Cove: Women and
Children’s Homeless Shelter located in Prince
George's County, Maryland.
Corey Briscoe '14 was chosen to participate in the
2013 Youth Engagement through Science (YES!)
program at the Smithsonian's National Museum of
Natural History. A total of 25 students have been
chosen in the DC area for this year's program from a
number of highly qualified applicants.
John Rookard III '13 and Dariya Brown '13 were
selected by Bishop McNamara and the Prince
George's County Kiwanis Club for "Citizenship
Awards" for their outstanding service to the
community. John was selected for his work at St.
Luke's Parish where he led the effort to remodel its
facilities to enable those with disabilities to attend
the parish and Dariya worked to secure school
supplies from various businesses to help students in
need at District Heights Elementary School.

welcomed a daughter
on April 21, 2013. Lily
Veronica weighed in
at 6lb 9oz and was 19"
long.
Junior counselor,
Jennifer Auchmoody,
shared the good
news on the birth of
her daughter, Molly
Genevieve, born
on May 10, 2013,
weighing in at 9lbs 3oz and was 20.5
inches in length.
Math teacher, Colleen
Shull, welcomed a
baby boy on May 20,
2013. Connor McNulty
Shull was 8lbs 10oz.
