At Stevenson , you ’ ll have exceptional experiences in and out of the classroom throughout your time here . In your classes , faculty will engage you with meaningful discussions , activities , and projects that allow you to explore and apply your knowledge , work with others , and solve real-world problems . Outside of the classroom , you ’ ll apply your knowledge and skills in different contexts , synthesizing and transferring what you have learned to experiences such as internships , servicelearning , undergraduate research , clinical experiences and practicums , study abroad , and other exceptional experiences .
INDEPENDENT RESEARCH AND CREATIVE WORKS
In many academic programs , students have the opportunity to pursue independent research or other projects under the mentorship of an SU faculty member or an off-campus mentor . These experiences are offered as independent research courses , capstone experiences , work study or other paid positions , and summer opportunities . Through these experiences , you will hone your critical thinking , technical , and communication skills while conducting independent research or creating your own original work within your academic field .
You can even get financial support to pursue your original work in the summer . The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research sponsors a Student Scholarly and Creative Works Summer Grant Program that supports students in pursuing independent work during the summer under the mentorship of an SU faculty member .

CLINICAL EXPERIENCES , PRACTICUMS , AND FIELD EXPERIENCES
Clinicals , practicums , and field experiences provide a supervised , practical experience where , as a student , you assume the role of an entry-level staff member . You will apply skills and knowledge acquired through coursework to one or more professional settings relevant to your field . Often , these experiences include opportunities to work in multiple specialties of the field .
