Today's generation don’t realize that just like the brands Coco-Cola, Apple, Pepsi, and other major corporations, we are also considered a brand. Before attending a session at the College Media Association'sspring convention, I knew about this, but wasn’t fully educated on the matter. One major tool we have to use today in building our brand is the power of social networks. Whether you’re on YouTube showing off singing talents, Instagram with photography, Face book with poetry, or tweeting away about politics, you are using forms forbuilding your brand within your community. Speaker, Victoria Reitano from Live with Kelly and Michael, discussed the importance of creating accounts with diminutive social networks. She emphasized beingprepared because you never know which social network could become more popular. Remember, Zuckerburgdesigned Facebook for a slow Harvard connection, not realizing that within six years it would become the world’s fastest and greatest advertising tool. In a major move to build yourself among followers, friends, family and colleagues, be sure you own your name on all social networks. Speaker Andrew Seaman of Thomas Reuters stated,” Make sure you choose which Social Network best fits the audience you are selling your brand to.” Remember Facebook is for more mature audiences as twitter reaches more college students. Keep in mind not to over post or double your statuses and post across different networks. Also, don’t join more social networks than you can handle, but be sure to own your name on the top five social networks.
