Mike Jones hit the industry hard in 2004 with his successful, break out single entitled, "Still tippin'. A single that brought a new era of hip-hop music into play with rich, vibrant Houston culture centered around popular Houston rappers such as Mike Jones, Slim Thug and Paul Wall. All of which used to be signed to SwishaHouse Records. The success of still tippin' put Jones in a position to sign a major deal to Jive Records, in which he then released his second single, "Back Then." The single had great commercial success and reached platinum status.
Early success as a rising star came fairly easy to Mike Jones upon the release of his first album, Who is Mike Jones? in 2005; Which debuted on Billboard 200 at number 3.It was not much of a difference between his first and second album when it comes to chart position with The Voice (2009) debuting at number 12 on Billboard 200. His second album was released under his very own label, Ice Age; which came about after Jones left Jive Records and signed a distribution deal with Asylum records in 2006. He also released The American Dream EP on his label in 2007. It debuted on Billboard 200 at number 183.
