Some of the great upcoming concerts that you do not want to miss out on for the the first half of next term!

Baroque Day - Saturday 3 May,

National Centre for Early Music

One of the events you don't want to miss out on is Baroque Day taking place at the National Centre for Early Music. This year celebrates the tercentenary of CPE Bach's birth. Alongside some great performances in the day, the University Baroque Ensemble will be performing CPE Bach's colourful Symphony in C, music by JS Bach, and a concerto for four violins by Telemann at 7pm.

Albert Herring - Weds 7 May,

SJLCH 7pm

Not to be missed, this is a performance of Benjamin Britten's comic opera Albert Herring (1947) - a story of self-discovery through confidence and independance. This will be performed by the University Chamber Ensemble (with John Stringer), a large ensmble cast, Recitative Piano by Adam Repa and is directed by Alice Wright!

York Spring Festival - Fri-Sun 9-11 May,

At various locations in venues within York, the York Spring Festival for this year looks to be very exciting! Celebrating all the wonderful things that new music can do to excite and entertain, it will feature new classical, pop, jazz and modern folk music. Some events to expect are the New Music Mardi Gras opener Fri 7.30pm in SJLCH, the Carnival on the Saturday at 2pm in town and Club Carnival in The Duchess at 9.30pm on the Sunday amoungst others!

Kathryn Stott - Weds 14 May,

SJLCH 7.30pm

Kathryn Stott is known internationally to be one of Britain's most versatile and imaginative musicians and amoungst today's most engaging pianists. Her performane credits are very impressive and this looks set to be a great concert not to be missed!

Zamar/The 24 - Fri/Weds 16/21 May,

SJLCH 7.30pm

Two great university vocal ensembles are performing within a week of each other! Zamar with their usual exciting gospel music from around the world directed by Simone Ibbett-Brown are going to give a fun-filled performance on the Friday. And then the following Wednesday, under director Robert Hollingworth, The 24 will perform music by Poulenc, Daniel-Lesur and Françaix amoungst others...
