Music Mayhem Magazine June 2014 : ISSUE #4 (Skate & Surf Edition) | Page 42

After the Crazy Mess of Skate & Surf 2013, I was a bit hesitant to attend Skate & Surf 2014. Although I then decided to give in & get it a go, Im very glad I did. It was a great success this year although due to a few circumstances I could only attend May 17th (day 1), I got the opportunity to discover SO MANY new bands, that I would have never got to discover without the help of a festival. Day One which is the only date I got to attend, allowed the line of about 200+ people in at 2:00pm sharp. The First Band Due on at 2:20. It was a very hard day to plan out who to shoot and what stage to goto as multiple bands were on at once & you had to choose who to see & photograph throughout the day I struggled with this complication. First band I photographed & seen of the day was Separations, A 4 piece band from Atlanta, Who absolutely destroyed the stage with their crazily awesome performance. Next band I got to see was Whiskey Hotel, Who is actually Showcasing Mayhem of June in this magazine issue. They were a bit of a different sound compared to the usual music I listen to but a unique sound in their own way, I really enjoyed watching their set. After catching Whiskey Hotel I got to watch MASS PUNISHMENT, a heavy metal 4 piece band from Central New Jersey. They came on the stage with their very unique attire all camouflage army uniforms, where vocalist Erick even had a grenade hanging off his vest. Their sound wasn't very different from the music we usual showcase but they also made the spot for Showcasing Mayhem of June within this issue of the magazine. They had very unique lyrics inspired from their experience within their active service in the military. I Pretty much bounced back and forth between these two stages all day as a lot of the bands on my list of bands to cover were on The Aquarian North or South Stage, After the set from Mass Punishment I then went to watch Illusionist, another local band who put on a great set, their vocalist Danny, who puts out great vocals also gives great photos by the crazy faces he makes throughout his performance. I then went to see a band also from New Jersey but who are great very high energy performers who not only give great music but an awesome show for their live sets, Chasing Safety. This is a band to get out and see if they make a stop in your town. They put out great music along with the energy levels their vocalist Johnny gives by his antics on stage swinging the mic from his neck or swinging it around the stage or jumping over the barricades into the crowd which they brought a pretty big crowd, one of the biggest I've seen all day. I then made a change and ran over to The World Stage which at this event is the "main stage" to see Incircles & Whats Eating Gilbert who both delivered cool chill sets for the expanding crowds which continued to get bigger as the day went on. I also manage to snap some photos of Science a band who put on quite the show, a very different unique sound/style in their own way. I manage to then push my way into the photo pit for about 1/2 of a song of the INSANELY wild crowd for Citizen who brought a HUGE crowd who sang along and moshed thru their ENTIRE set. Sirens & Sailors up next on the Aquarian North Stage, A band a heard & listened to for quite sometime now but never had the opportunity to see live.
