‘To Whom it May Concern’ is the first single off of Aussie metalcore outfit Capture the Crown’s second studio album Reign of Terror. The album is set for release on August 5, 2014 via Artery Recordings.
The track is very intense and in your face during verses-you can really hear and feel the emotion; which I was expecting. I hadn’t actually heard CtC but I had heard of them, so I knew a bit of what I was going to hear. The chorus is beautiful, melodic, but also blends very well with the rest of the song. The best part is you can hear their accents throughout the entire song, more so on the chorus, but that gives it a certain flavor I feel, steers it away from it sounding generic.
Reception from fans has been what could be described as ‘meh’. Many are complaining of the blandness of the lyrics, there are more technical guitars needed, and that it’s sjust flat out boring. Mostly typical things that most ‘fans’ in this genre complain about (not saying that their points aren’t valid, I just disagree with their opinions). And on the flip side you have the handful defending them, telling people not to judge the album off of one song (people after my own heart!).
Rating: 3.75/5- This song is good. I like it, I think it’s a great track. The chorus is my favorite, I’m a huge sucker for accents. There’s something missing though. I can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s something that’s holding me back from giving it a full on 4...I’ve been listening to it often and it has grown on me, don’t get me wrong. It just doesn’t have ‘IT’ for me. I’m hopeful though, that the singles to follow and the album itself will draw me in even more. My interest is peaked! We’ll just have to wait and see!
