Scholarships Types of Scholarships    Open Music Scholarship Music Instrumental Scholarship Choral Scholarship Conditions for Scholarship Recipients Music scholarships are offered to students entering Year 7 and recognise musical ability as evidenced through a standardised performance exam. Scholarships are highly sought after and offer a variety of financial rewards. The general conditions of maintaining scholarships are as follows - 1 Music scholarships are for one instrument only. 2 There is no charge for standard 45 minute music lessons or instrument hire. 3 If a scholarship recipient wishes to learn a second instrument, this can be done, however, the charges will be paid by the parent/guardian. 4 Scholarships are subject to formative and summative review by the instrumental music teachers in consultations with the Director of Music at any stage. 5 All Music Scholarship holders are expected to choose classroom music as an elective in Years 8 and 9. 6 Open Music Scholarship recipients are expected to take Classroom Music as one of their chosen subjects in Year 10 and encouraged to enrol in ATAR music in Years 11 and 12. 7 Full and prompt attendance at instrumental music lessons. 8 Maintains a high level of achievement/improvement on the instrument. 9 Be a member of at least one ensemble, appropriate to the instrument. 10 Active role in the School of Music, including positive and engaged attitude, assisting others who may need help, helping to set up and pack away, taking on a leadership role. 11 Music Scholarships cover tuition provided at Guildford Grammar School. When a private tutor is engaged, parents/guardians are responsible for the initial payment of tuition.
