Polka Lovers Klub of America
coe, MN for the 50th
anniversary of Roger
and Marge Leuther, with
Harvey Becker and the
Riverside
Dutchmen
playing.
May 6 – Found us at
the Bandwagon taping
again, and danced to the
Czech Area Concertina
Club.
May 7 – Were at Pem-
berton and danced to
Leon Olsen Show.
May 11 – We went to
Inver Grove Heights for
the Karneval Minnesota
Kostum Ball. It was at
the Moose Lodge, with
music by the Joey John-
son Band. This is where
they crown their new ju-
nior royalty. They intro-
duced Darrell and me as
their royalty guests.
Both members and
non-members dressed up
in costumes, and Darrell
and I were asked to be
the judges of the cos-
tumes. They gave away
prizes for the fi rst, sec-
ond, and third place for
the best costume.
We were really treated
like royalty.I was given
a bouquet of fl owers and
the junior royalty gave
Darrell and me a medal
on a ribbon that stated,
“Spielmannazug, MN
Kinderlarneval
2017-
2018.”
The junior royalty
consists of a prince
and princess. The adult
prince gave Darrell and
me a ribbon in the shape
of Minnesota that states
“Spielmannszug, Min-
nesota 2018-2019.”
We will be wearing
these to the dances. This
medal has a lot of things
on it for the State of
Minnesota. Please come
and see these when you
are at a dance with us.
We feel very honored to
receive these.
We did not make it to
the Larry Olsen’s Mu-
sic Fest, which we had
planned on, but Darrell
ended up in the hospital
with pneumonia and got
to come home Wednes-
day, but was not able to
go Thursday, as the doc-
tor said no dancing, but
you can listen.
At the same time, his
sister’s health was fail-
ing and she passed away
Saturday evening, May
25. The funeral was
Wednesday, May 29.
Darrell is still not feel-
ing great. We still plan
on going to dances if we
can, but he might just
have to visit instead of
doing much dancing.
Hope you all stay
healthy and dance when/
if you can.
Take care and God
bless.
New location was a hit
Springtime Music &
Polka Festival got a new
home this May at the Ho-
Chunk Gaming facility
in Black River Falls, WI
(about 25 miles from
its previous home at the
Palladium Ballroom in
Osseo, WI).
Dancers and music-
lovers from all over the
midwest and beyond at-
tended the festival, and
were full of great com-
pliments about the new
venue.
The huge ballroom al-
lowed plenty of room for
dancers, listeners, and
band members.
Free soda and coffee
and a variety of onsite
food options, including
a buffet and bistro, were
convenient for those at-
tending the festival.
The beautiful hotel
rooms made taking a
break from the dance a
short walk away.
Festival
attendees
were each given $10
in rewards play and $5
bingo vouchers to use at
Ho-Chunk Gaming.
Those staying at the
hotel received a special
festival room rate and
were also given voucher
coupons for discounted
food.
The staff at Ho-Chunk
Gaming were great hosts
and they have a great fa-
cility.
Ho-Chunk also spon-
sors monthly polka
dances the fi rst Wednes-
day of each month from
1 to 4 p.m., featuring a
variety of great bands.
The next dance will
take place Wednesday,
July 3, with music by the
Rhythm Playboys.
Ho-Chunk Gaming
has graciously agreed
to host the Springtime
Music and Polka Fest
again next year, May 1-
3, 2020.
