performing on a given
Friday.”
The area for the musi-
cians in the main studio
at KCHK is best de-
scribed as lean, yet all
size bands seem to find
room.
“The All You Can Eat
Band holds the record for
most players crammed
in the small space, with
nine,” remembers Goetz-
inger.
“Another big band
with six members was
the Red Devils (a faction
of the Minnesota Na-
tional Guard Red Bull
Infantry Band). We’ve
had plenty of bands with
as many as five mem-
bers, and several singing
groups and school choirs
with multiple members.”
All the players who
come on KCHK for a
live concert are referred
to as “LMF Family
Members.”
Many players are part-
time musicians, others
earn a living by mak-
ing music, while others
have obtained a certain
amount of notoriety in
their musical careers.
Inductees in the Minne-
sota Music Hall of Fame
in New Ulm who have
been on KCHK include
Florian Chmielewski,
Pete Wendinger, Steve
Moran, Jerry Minar,
Craig Ebel, Jerry Kahle,
and Sherwin Linton.
Inductees into the
World Concertina Con-
gress Hall of Fame per-
forming on LMF include
the afore-mentioned Pete
Wendinger, Jerry Minar,
and Craig Ebel, as well
as Larry Novotny, Clete
Goblirsch, Ernie Stumpf,
and Chuck Thiel.
Mollie B of RFDTV,
and Nashville recording
artist Jeff Dayton, who
was Glen Campbell’s
band leader for a decade,
have come in, as well.
Goetzinger, who has
hosted every show ex-
cept one, points out that
a recent day-long mul-
tiple-band fundraiser for
a veterans’ memorial in
New Prague featured
eight bands, all of whom
had performed on LMF.
“All bands donated
their time, and the event
raised $25,000. We put
out the call to our LMF
family members and
they responded in a huge
way!”
Since LMF has aired
on KCHK, six CD sam-
plers have been pro-
duced. Four samplers
dren in need the chance
to bond with officers of
the law while shopping
for their Christmas gifts
with donated funds.
