Want to know more about your
icon? Bring your objects in for an
assessment clinic provided by the
members of the Museum’s curato-
rial team. The assessment includes
the approximate age of your icon,
where and how it was made, and
for what purpose it was made. Find
out if your icon is a Church icon or
an icon for domestic display, and
receive information on conservation
and appraisal services.
Assessments do not include financial
appraisals, per IRS tax code pro-
hibiting the valuation of objects by
a nonprofit. A second clinic will be
held on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Learn to paint the Zhostovo style from one of
the world’s leading authorities and teachers.
This three project course is designed for paint-
ers who have never painted this style before or
who want a refresher class to hone their skills.
Daisies, cornflowers and a classic rose with an
ornamental border will be painted.
The students will learn some Zhostovo his-
tory, how to set up your painting space, about painting supplies needed, the use
and care of brushes, how to properly prepare a surface, how to transfer a design to
the painting surface, when to use opaque and transparent paints, and some basic
strokework. Students will also receive an introduction to the stages of the tradi-
tional painting - base painting, shading, and highlighting. There will also be a
lesson on the beautiful ornamentation that adorns Zhostovo works.

The Museum is hosting another evening of tours, live music, and comraderie for
our members. This time we're celebrating Russia's famous White Nights—those
evenings when most of the country experiences around the clock sunlight.
Our own take on a White Nights festival will include live music provided by
acclaimed soprano Maria Ferrante and her students; tours and talks from our
knowledgeable staff, and of course plenty of hors d'oeuvres, wine, and vodka.
