Teeth an excerpt by Atticus Hare My grandfather tells me a tale of a tribe up north. A tribe full of the most fearless and brave warriors. These warriors have defended their homeland for years and intend to keep doing so. In their waters roams a different species of great white shark. These sharks have physically adapted to the freezing environment. They are the most vicious and frightening sea creatures known to the tribe. The sharks teeth are some of the most prized posse ssions one could have. Only those who have killed a shark can keep its teeth. The teeth were used for mainly armor and weaponry. Only the most elite and skilled warriors had obtained shark teeth. When a young man named Kaiju became eligible to join his brothers in arms, he had one thing on his mind. Ever since he was a little boy, he always dreamt of wielding his own shark tooth blade in traditional tribe armor. Everyday Kaiju trained to hunt and kill with his brothers. First, he learned to hunt animals on land such as moose and elk. Then he was taught to fish for local food such as trout. Catching and killing a great white in the tribes’ areas is a long precise process. One wrong move and you could not see another shark for months at a time. When the chief finally thought Kaiju was ready, he told him to go out and kill his own shark and not return until it was done. Untitled by Atticus Hare Spray paint on hide, 2013.
