OCTOBER 2016 Candid Hi, everyone. This is Hari Charan. You are watching me on Mussek mag. I started off as a Carnatic vocalist and learned a lot of great Stalwarts. I am still learning. Playback singing happened when I was just finishing my schooling. I had participated in a lot of Television competitions and got to know people. There was an amazing personality called A V Ramanan who took me up with Joshua Shreethar, who at the time was making music for Kaadhal under Shankar sir’s production. I met him, sang a couple of songs which I knew and he instantly thought that I suited the hero’s (Bharath’s) voice in the movie. I sang three songs for that movie. From then, my songs have been doing their own networking (i.e) one of my songs will be heard by another person who’ll want to record with me. I have been so lucky to have sung such great songs and to have worked with such great people. It’s been an amazing journey so far. I started working with Yuvan for the very large period of my life. I did movies like Paiyaa and a lot of great hits like “thus thus thus mazhayai” was for him. I have been singing backing vocals for Mr. A.R. Rahman since when I was a kid. I have done backing vocals for Lagaan,*****, Kandathil muthamithal. But I never had the chance to meet him properly, introduce myself and sing for him until the day it happened - when I was called for kochadayan. There was this song called “Unmai uruvai nee Ulakin guruvai nee”. It’s an epic song because it is a duet with superstar himself when he gives advice I sing. That was my first recording for A. R. Rahman sir. I have also work with Isaignyani sir. It was such a dream come true to meet him and work with him because we have all heard his songs since our childhood and we all have been inspired by his music. It’s such a great honor to be working with such people and all the young composers, my dear friends like Mr. Imaan, Vijay Antony, and G. V. 11 www.museekmag.com
