Navneeth: I will be super kicked to do a hardcore malasala film, a real mass entertainer film. I will be really great to do. I have done some really classy films but probably what is missing from my repertoire is one superb mass hero’s film. MM: Tell us the great composers who have so much influenced on you with few examples. Navneeth: As I child I grew up listening to RD Burman, so probably I would that he is my first influence. And I listen to lot of MSV Ramamurthy. I am a tune first composer and I write arrangements, for arrangements I got inspired by Rahman sir and Raja sir. These are my prime influences. But I also try to keep it very organic way. I just let the song flow basically, so my influences will come through certain ways here and there. These guys are my main influences. I wouldn’t say inspiration but I have listened to lots of Michael Jackson, Rae Charles, Brelly Briston and so. All of these influences come into my playing since am a keyboard player and it naturally influences my arrangement as well. MM: Do you intend to teach music, if someone comes to you? Navneeth: I have definitely a plan to teach but the thing is I have not decided about how to go with it. At least for the last 2 to 3 months, I have been comprehending that I should teach people and pass on whatever the skills I have. I evolved differently from many other keyboard players. Mr. Selvaraj Kumar was my Teacher who made me learn in a unique way. He taught me till sarali varisai at home that is how much I have learnt theoretically beyond that he put me as an eight-year-old in an orchestra. That is how I learnt, my way of learning will be different from other keyboard players who are playing phenomenally well. My way of learning is slightly different because of this, so I think I probably have slightly different skills and I would like to pass it on to the next generation. I am looking to come up with a unique curriculum which will work for my students. I may start teaching in another couple of months. for the theatres and for the mp3 players. Now we have so many different genres. For 17 an August album to sound good we need many genres in the same film. For many genres we need specialist singers to for each genre to deliver each song. Of course each song will be for the protagonist but even for the same protagonist if one is a rap song we require a rapper, if one is a rock song we need someone who is good at delivering a rock song. It is evolved over time to suit the multiple genres that have come through in the last 20- 25 years and that is why we have so many singers singing for the same actor/actress. MM: If someone wants to learn Carnatic music, do you still advise them to go through harmonium or keyboard? Navneeth: Harmonium is a different instrument all together because it has got smaller keys for beginners and its fingering is different from keyboard. If someone wants to play keyboard, start with MM: As a composer does the theory as it is a theory it sound good when we use based instrument, no one can more than one singer to a just put their hands on it and Hero/Heroine? expect it to sound good. It is not how it is made, not only Navneeth: I think one singer keyboard any instrument. for one actor was for an era. Get into understanding the Time has also changed; the notations and then can start music is looked upon in a film playing the instrument. I has also evolved over time. think that will be a good way These days music for approaching a keyboard. 17 is made
