especially after playing with legends like Rajesh Vaidya & Bombay Jayshree. I had Mag a slight desire in me that one day I will also be able to express what I think in my mind as a Carnatic musician. So, there was a little musician who was developing in my head. But unfortunately, I was not playing the instrument which was not conducive to Carnatic music. There are killer players like Sathya and Palakkad Sivaraman Sir but I am not that kind of player. I struggle to convey my thoughts to singers in the studio. I come up with a Carnatic heavy thought or something. I had to communicate that to the singers or audience it is impossible because I cannot express it through my fingers on the keyboard at least I cannot do. I am a very bad singer when it comes to Carnatic, I can sing western like stuff but I cannot handle Carnatic Sangadhis. I was desperately looking on something where I could express my thoughts, the Sangadhis that were coming in my head. If I was becoming a more of a creator than a performer, at some level you have to communicate what you come up to the audience, that was the reason why I took up iPad. It is still evolving, I won’t say that am completely satisfied with how Museek I am conveying my thoughts but it’s a start, I have made a start and I hope with time things will evolve. MM: What was the moment you decided to do Carnatic stuff with the iPad app? Was it because of the app or something else happened in your life? Navneeth: The moment I played on the app and decided am going to use this. The moment I downloaded the app and heard a glide, I thought I was going do it. This is probably what I was looking for days. Suddenly flashes of memories, I just felt like a child. I just wanted to try it out and do something, I was so excited. Its more about fascination and inquisitiveness to the technology and the music itself. So that was exactly I became like a child trying to play an angry bird, I was trying to play the app and trying to figure out the app and what I could do with it. That’s how I chanced upon whatever ability I have to play Carnatic music on the iPad. It took a while for me to get show/performance ready completely. There are still limitations whatever an iPad can do or at least what I can do. There are some other great musicians with the iPad like Mahesh Raghavendra who 14 are also superb stuff on the iPad. But I think we will all collectively work for the fact that it is still evolving and it will evolve over time because the iPad is itself is new. MM: You do so many work like “Phool Hai Chand”, Is there any specific reason do these kinds of various things using your iPad as a consistent entity and changing the other orchestra members. Is there any agenda or approach or a plan to do these various kinds of things? Navneeth: To be honest, I was going with a flow. Chandrajith asked me if we could collaborate to do this iPad concept some months ago. So, it just happened and things came together at this point and we got a good camera guy to work on this Cover. I always wanted to be a Collaborating musician and I think the iPad has probably opened up certain avenues for me to be able to collaborate with internationally as well which I am still exploring how to go about it. At least I have made a start. MM: Do you think that is there any music for television? Navneeth: There is no such thing called music for television. It just works
