One can also go through
the areola, as it hides the scar
well. However, for women with
small areolas, this may not be
the most practical approach
and yields the highest risk of
capsular contracture.
The armpit can also hide
scars very well – the down-
side is that it only allows for a
submuscular approach (some
will perform over the muscle
placement, but it is unneces-
sarily complex).
M: WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE BREAST
AUGMENTATION CAN DO FOR A
WOMAN?
J: Self-confidence is the
most beautiful feature a
woman can have, and breast
augmentations can help boost
your self-confidence and im-
prove your proportions.
M: HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT
DOCTOR FOR ME?
J: Simple answer: do your
research. Doing research
means doing more than
just looking at ratings on
Google. You want to find a
surgeon who is board certified
in Plastic Surgery. There are
many different ‘certifications’,
‘academies’, ‘societies’ of cos-
metic surgery, laser surgery, li-
posuction etc. Board Certifica-
tion in Plastic Surgery (in US)
or Royal College Certification
in Plastic Surgery (Canada)
is the only certificate that
ensures your plastic surgeon is
actually a plastic surgeon! So
you want to find a Plastic Sur-
geon who is properly trained
and has experience in your
particular procedure. Some
specialize in Breast Augmenta-
tions, while others specialize
in Facelifts. Make sure you
can see many before and after
photos, not just their select 10
best cases. Try to find before
photos of someone with a
similar body shape and breasts
with results you desire. Do
some research and review sites
such as Realself or RateMDs,
and look at before and after
pictures. Much like everything
else in life, experience matters!
The surgeon who has done
thousands of breast augmenta-
tions and has maintained their
reputation and a beautiful be-
fore and after gallery is likely to
have a lower complication rate
and may have more experience
in dealing with unexpected is-
sues during or post procedure.
M: WHAT ABOUT PRICING?
J: While I suspect looking
at the price is often one of the
first things people take into
consideration when doing
their research, it should be the
last deciding factor.
The fee for breast augmen-
tation varies from geographical
area to geographical area. So
first, if you decide that you
want to travel to a place where
the cost is cheaper, take into
account that you may face
additional costs associated
with travel, including recovery
time and potential follow-up
costs if travel is again required.
Remember, no surgeon is
perfect and no surgeon can
guarantee you a complication-
free recovery.
live streaming their surgery
on SNAPCHAT and INS-
TAGRAM. It is an amazing
educational tool/platform for
choosing your plastic surgeon,
it is real and raw but you get to
see exactly what is entailed in
the surgery plus it is interac-
tive so you can ask questions
during the surgery. You can see
what techniques the surgeon
uses and what the results
look like, which sets realistic
expectations. There are no
special lighting affects or touch
ups that are possible with
photographs.
*note: Dr. Jugenburg was
the first plastic surgeon in
CANADA to offer live surgeries
on SNAPCHAT and Instagram.
He has over 90K followers on
Snapchat and over 89K on Ins-
tagram (username Realdrsix).
M: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RISKS
INVOLVED IN BREAST AUGMENTATION?
M: IS THERE ANYTHING NEW IN THE
PLASTIC SURGERY FIELD?
J: Well, the explosion of
social media in Plastic Surgery
is pretty exciting. It gives
you the ability to follow and
watch some plastic surgeons
J: No surgery will ever be
foolproof, and no surgeon is
perfect. The biggest concern
women tend to have with
their augmentation is implant
rupture. The risk tends to be
about 1% per year, or 10% over
