to anyone wanting to maximise their
productivity, as an athlete, in business
or with their family is to utilise this
same mentality. Quite simply “you
need to segment out your day, be
focussed on your exercise and embrace
the AMRAP mentality”. He points out
that it is “effort that gets results, not
duration” so everything he does is
dictated by the clock which is critical
for people to recognise.
Parkinson’s Law states that ‘work
expands so as to fill the time available
for its completion’ and was first
coined in The Economist in 1955.
Almost 65 years later and that is
exactly the issue that the ‘AMRAP
mentality’ is trying to resolve. Using
the gym as an example Jason advises
that you set a timer as soon as you
walk in, then you do as much work
as possible during that period of time.
No time is ever wasted, the phone is
never touched and rest periods come
when the sixty minutes are up. Then
he applies this same approach to his
work time and his family time –
nothing else matters when there
is a task in hand.
I asked him if there was something
he could be doing more of that would
enhance his performance in some way.
He paused for a few seconds before
saying “not really”. He elaborated
that “on a daily basis I reflect on how
I am doing with my priorities. At this
moment I don’t have anything that
stands out, but if I did I would have
spotted it and worked towards
improving it. I have a good balance at
the moment and I am managing all
the priorities in my life. If I can keep
on top of that then in years to come
I won’t have any regrets”, and just like
that the man who practises exactly
what he preaches proved why he has
been so successful as an athlete, a
businessman, a father and as a
husband.
You can expect to see and hear much
more from Jason in the future, and his
next steps are to “continue to expand
in the corporate wellness sector which
already has multiple sites in Asia”, to
open up more public locations that we
own and operate, but also to expand
the NCFIT collective which is a group
of like minded individuals sharing best
practise and to grow my network of
people who want to raise the bar”.
In a world where so many people
are ‘all talk’, are uncommitted and
find excuses not to do things on a
regular basis, Jason Khalipa is a
breath of fresh air. He has only ever
dated one woman from the age of 14,
he only worked at one company
before CrossFit® took over, he has
consistently competed at the top of a
sport that had dramatically increasing
standards and I don’t doubt that the
positivity and resolve of him and wife
Ashley are why Ava has responded so
well to her treatment. “Ava is smashing
it, she is 100% my hero and I hope
that one day she can see herself the
way I do every day”. His commitment
and dedication are second to none
and a lesson to us all.
Jason will be in the UK for
BodyPower on the 11th and 12th
of May delivering workshops for
athletes and gym owners, sharing
his AMRAP mentality thought
process, demonstrating his coaching
techniques and working out with
those who want to see him in action.
