T
HE BODYBUILDING SEASON IS WELL
AND TRULY UNDER WAY, AND ONE OF THE
MANY TOP CLASS PHYSIQUES TAKING
THE STAGE AT THE 2017 EDITION OF THE
ARNOLD CLASSIC AFRICA WAS MORNÉ VAN
DEN BERG. In the 2016 May-June issue of Muscle
Evolution we interviewed Morné, who decided to take
an entire year off from competing to add muscle after
competing at the 2015 IFBB World Championships.
Now that the dust has settled on this year’s ACA,
we caught up with the man who rocks a Superman
tattoo (it serves as a permanent source of
inspiration) to ask him about his Arnold’s
experience, the training system he
followed to pack on quality size, and
his future plans.

Morné, you achieved a phenomenal 2nd
place in the Men's Bodybuilding up to
80kg category. How did it feel competing
in your first ACA?
Being on stage is truly indescribable.
I don't think I could actually describe
what went through my head, but
basically I was thinking about all the
hard work that allowed me to reach
that particular point, the emotional
roller-coaster, my support system
– especially my girlfriend Marelize
Stander, my parents, my sponsors
TNT Mercury and Ciccone Pharma,
my amazing coach Hennie Kotze,
and, last but not least, God, for giving
me the ability to compete. Thinking
about all of them while on stage ignited
a warrior attitude within me that enabled
me to give it my best and in that way show
my gratitude to all the people who are
important in my life.
