W
Bodybuilding is just that: it is building
your body into something worthy of
stepping onto a stage for all to admire,
judge and aspire to achieve. People are
so fixated on what they think it means to
be successful that they look past what it
actually takes, what they need to do to
get there.
They think that in order to be successful
as a bodybuilder they need a fan page, a
fan base, to be famous, have a supplement
sponsor, be a trainer, own a clothing line,
have a pro card... and the list goes on. The
reality is that all of these are by-products of
doing all of the basics very, very well, and I
believe these all get added to your journey
once you prove that you are worthy of
having them.
How many times have you seen people
starting up their own fan pages, posting
what food they eat, advertising that they
are now coaching people to compete
when in fact they really are just novices
themselves with maybe a couple of shows
under their belt?
Nowadays, with all these prep coaches
popping up all over the place, you
have to question what qualifies them
to become one? I see it all the time that
“so and so” is now coaching people
and it absolutely blows my mind how
people are unqualified to help others
are now charging people for advice that
is essentially just recycled advice that
they have received from another person
who coached them. Wherever possible,
someone understands the way the body
really works and is qualified to advise you,
is what you should go for. I understand
the need for people who are motivators
and helpers, but really, often they are
not qualified to be helping others. In
some cases, when someone has a ton of
experience and has worked with hundreds
of people before, with a great measure of
success, then yes that probably qualifies
them to do so but it is still not an official
qualification. That’s an exception. Back in
the day the information was passed down
from the highest level academics to the
guys in the know. I remember the pros of
yesteryear would do seminars with slide
shows and presentations on how to eat,
how to train and how to take supplements.
