M.E FEATURE M.E: Do you have a "coaching philosophy"? Do you have different approaches with different clients? Marius: I am good at two things: I know how to get different bodies into contest shape and I know how to speed up a client's metabolism. Once you have mastered that, they can grow better and drop fat faster depending on what plan you put them on. I also know how to slow the metabolism down when it needs to be slowed down. M.E: So you train men and women. How do they differ and who do you prefer training the most. Marius: Men’s and women's diets and training differ completely, but both work on the same metabolism protocol I use. It's just the quantities of food that will differ and the training will differ completely. With bodybuilding men it's a time game - the guys who have been at it the longest will have the best results, but women can shoot up in the ranks very fast. Take Nicolene Booysen, for example, when she started with me she just wanted to make the transition from beach bikini to M.E: Let's move to online coaching. What can you as an online coach gain that you could not gain with one-on one? Marius: Online coaching is a great occupation for a pro athlete. It allows me to train more often and work anywhere in the world. I can be in the USA competing and still help my clients as long as I have wifi and my cell phone or computer. As a personal trainer you only make money from the clients you physically train every day. With online training I'm not present during the training and it allows me to eat six times a day and train twice a day as well. People don't understand how busy you are as an IFBB Pro. It takes me 45 minutes to finish a massive meal and I eat 6 of them a day. That allows me only an hour and 15 minutes to answer clients or run errands between meals, and I still need to squeeze in two training sessions a day. That is why online training is such a logical occupation for me and as an online coach I can help more clients than a personal trainer can. That is why we had 17 BTD clients qualify for IFBB SAs this year. M.E: What does a client gain from an online coach? Does he lose out because it is not one-on-one? Marius: Both personal training and online coaching have their benefits and at the end it comes down to client preference. I've had lots of people enquire and as soon as they hear it's only online they are not interested anymore because they need that physical push. The biggest downfall with online coaching is the physical motivation part. Most of the time a fitness bikini. I don't think she knew I'd be able to do it in 21 days and even more so get her to win the IFBB SA fitness bikini line up and be so strong in the overalls. I've had a whole bunch of women shoot up like that: Tammy Jackson, Melissa Storm and Angie Snyman were the same. So for that fact I love taking new unknown ladies and making champions out of them. But my passion lies with bodybuilding. Seeing Dylan and Carlos and Shanti, all three my guys, standing on the IFBB SA overall line up gave me goosebumps. “With bodybuild- ing men it’s a time game - the guys who have been at it the longest will have the best results, but women can shoot up in the ranks very fast.” personal trainer can motivate a client better than an online coach. But I don't have that problem with my business, I only work with self motivated people. It makes my job so much easier and results are so much better. Not all my clients are competitors but they all know their way around a gym and they don't need me to baby them. When a client joins my online training team they can rest assured that they can leave the thinking to me. Male or female, fitness, bikini or bodybuilding, I know how to get the human body into the best shape possible. M.E: Let's try our luck… what is your secret to getting such good results with your online clients? Marius: If you can speed up a person's metabolism you can do wonders with a physique and that's what I'm good at. I can also relate to what they are going through because I’ve been doing it for 17 years and I can advise them on how to break through plateaus mentally and physically. I make them believe in themselves and I show them what their real potential could be. I also teach which cheats won't harm the condition M.E: How do you take an athlete and make him/her a champion? Marius: I make that athlete believe in himself/herself and in me as a coach and that way we work strongly together. You can't force someone to be a champion - they either want it or they don't. You can quickly see who are the ones who want it and who are the ones who make excuses. M.E: Do you have views on what other online coaches may be doing wrong? Marius: I don't focus on other people and what they are doing. I know a lot of people complain because some people claim to be online coaches but never stood on stage or only did one show in their life but frankly I say everybody needs to make a living somehow. So it’s none of my business what others do or don't do, all I focus on is that me and my clients are number one. M.E: What should a potential client be looking for when finding an online coach? Marius: They should be looking for one of my Facebook pages Born to Dominate SA or Marius Annelize Dohne or my Instagram Marius Dohne where we showcase our clients' results and where they can get a hold of me. There is no need to look elsewhere. M.E Team BTD, Marius and Annelize, can be contacted on mdsymmetry@gmail.com and annelize.stewart@gmail com. 40 Muscle Evolution
