W
e all are quite accustomed to the famous
and widely adored 'Glory Glory Man Utd' chant,
sung by fans worldwide at any rejoicing occasion
related to Manchester United. Today, I'd like to tell
you about the history behind this famoussong."Glory
Glory Man United" was a 1983 single released by
the Manchester United F.C. squad prior to the 1983
FA Cup Final. It was written by Frank Renshaw, a
member of Herman's Hermits in the 1970s and
1980s. It was recorded at Strawberry Studios in
Stockport with the Football Team (yes, the original
was sang by the team members themselves!) and some
of Renshaw's friends – Renshaw's son Lee also sang
on the recording.Manchester United fans have been
singing this song since the early 1980s.
During the 1990s, unsurprisingly jealous at Utd's success, opposition supporters tried to
manipulate the words of the song when playing Manchester United to "Who the F*** are Man United?".
United supporters, famous worldwide for their sarcasm, got the better of the rival supporters as they
sarcastically sung it themselves after scoring, or while winning, against a rival team. Cheeky sods, eh?
Here's a youtube link to the song, with lyrics, should you wish to give it another listening to.
