intercepting. That reflects in the stats given above. This season, Welbeck has made a clearance or an interception every 25 minutes. Last season, he did the same every 40 minutes. In case of Chicharito, last season he carried out a defensive action every 96 minutes. This season, one every 150 minutes of gameplay. Other Stats So this is one place where you might think that the statistics has lied. For example, it looks like Chicharito has a much better tackling percentage than Welbeck or that he wins more take-ons against defenders. It might also make you think that Welbeck is a better header of the ball than Chicharito is. Interestingly, this is where real game comes in to perspective. Welbeck closes down more and wins the ball back more often than Chicharito. But Chicharito gets you fouls and therefore penalties/freekicks in more dangerous areas. Welbeck takes on more wwwdefenders while dribbling and gets past them more often. But Chicharito gets into heading positions more often and has a jumping reach rivalled only by the likes of Ronaldo and such. COMPLETELY OPPOSITE of what this stats show. The Verdict Let’s get this clear. First of all, the two of them are very very different players who bring totally different dimensions to the team. Welbeck is more versatile who brings more to the buildup play during attacks and puts in a decent shift when needed defensively. On the other hand Chicharito is a natural poacher, popping up at the right moments and right places to get you the goals. However, Welbeck has shown that he is almost as adept as Chicharito when playing as a forward instead of the wings. And Chicharito has shown that he is able to create chances almost at a similar rate as Welbeck does. Currently though, Moyesie is more likely to use Welbeck when the team needs to create more chances when we are not. Chicharito comes in to the field when we need to poach a goal from just about anywhere. But the main point of this article, after such a huge comparison, is that us “fans should not blame Moyes if we see Welbeck in the lineup instead of Chicharito starting besides Van Persie and Rooney.” PAGE |12
