HOUSEKEEPING PROFILE
THIS ISSUE WE INTERVIEW
SUE BELL, HEAD HOUSEKEEPER
AT THE CASTLE HOTEL
AN 18 ROOM LUXURY HOTEL SITUATED AT THE HEART OF LINCOLN’S HISTORIC CENTRE IN THE CATHEDRAL QUARTER
Q1: YOU ARE THE HEAD HOUSEKEEPER
AT THE CASTLE HOTEL. PLEASE TELL US
A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND IN
HOTEL HOUSEKEEPING?
H Yes, I run the Housekeeping Department.
Before coming to the Castle, I’d had no
previous experience in the hospitality
industry, having worked in administration
in the public and commercial sector.
I decided to take a different direction
when my daughter started school and
the vacancy at the hotel suited my
circumstances. That was back in 1993 and I
have been here ever since!
28 Housekeeping management
I have seen many changes over the years
and in particular the transformation by
the current owners Paul and Saera from
a traditional English hotel to the modern
boutique hotel it is today.
Q2: IN YOUR OPINION WHAT MAKES A
GOOD HOUSEKEEPING TEAM?
H Being a housekeeper is a very physically
hard and demanding job, having to work to
very high standards whilst keeping within
timescales. A well trained team who are
given direction so that they know exactly
what they are required to do is essential.
