HOUSEKEEPING IN THE CLOUD T he trend of moving to “The Cloud” is now being reported as “rising at tsunami speed in both its usage and significance across the globe.” Cloud investment is now talked of in the “trillions of dollars”. A “mass migration” is underway and showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. A recent report by Gartner, a world’s leading information technology research and advisory company, stated ““more than $1 trillion in IT spending will be directly or indirectly affected by the shift to cloud during the next five years. “and that“… The aggregate amount of cloud shift in 2016 was estimated to reach $111 billion, increasing to $216 billion in 2020.” In short, the Cloud is the “new norm”. So why the stampede to the cloud? The simple answer is that cloud computing increases efficiency, makes businesses more competitive and most importantly more profitable. Some of the compelling reasons to “head to the clouds” include significantly reducing capital-expenditure, much greater flexibility, simple disaster recovery, automatic software updates, and the freedom to work from anywhere. When it comes to the hospitality world, RMS, a specialist in reservation and property management software, has long been “in the Cloud.” “RMS jumped to the cloud well ahead of it’s competitors” says RMS Europe Managing Director Jeff Swanson “the advantages of a cloud based property management system are compelling and we wanted to ensure our customers could take full advantage of everything the Cloud has to offer.” Aptly titled RMS Cloud, the software is totally cloud based. “it’s the complete solution for property management with everything that a modern cloud based product offering should be” says Jeff. “ For the hotel industry and depending on your needs, RMS Cloud includes point of sale interfaces, housekeeping and maintenance management, “book now” buttons for instant booking from your website, not to mention a host of options meeting the special needs of hotel operators”. Our comprehensive Housekeeping module lets you manage all your tasks. You can assign times for each task such as making a bed and allocate rooms to individual housekeepers. This will allow you to manage your staff and timekeeping as well. As the system is cloud based they can even use a mobile device to update the system in real-time allowing the front desk to immediately know when a room is clean. Says Jeff, “It ticks all the boxes. No need to invest in expensive computers that constantly need upgrading, all your data is constantly and securely backed-up and, most importantly, it gives you more time to concentrate on enhancing your guests stay with you.” For hotel managers, it couldn’t be easier to be in the cloud. “No longer chained to an office desk, the cloud sees you in business wherever there’s an internet connection” says Jeff. With the Cloud it seems ‘the sky is the limit’. And, as one commentator recently said “While it can be hard to predict the future, it does appear that we are only at the beginning of the cloud computing revolution, making this an exciting time for companies who are just now beginning to explore the advantages that the cloud has to offer.” Those still on the ground risk being well and truly left behind! www.rmscloud.com Housekeeping management 13
