Geography

Climate

Konya has a continental climate. Rainfall occurs mostly during the spring and autumn. Under Köppen's climate classification The city has a semi-arid climate (Köppen BSk). Summers temperatures average 30 °C (86 °F). The highest temperature recorded in Konya was 40.6 °C (105 °F) on 30 July 2000. Winters average 4.2 °C (24 °F). The lowest temperature recorded was -25.8 °C (78 °F) on 25 January 1989.

Selçuk University was founded in 1975. It is the biggest public university in Turkey in terms of student population: there were 76080 registered students in 2008-09 academic year.
