Among the best public schools of Turkey, the Galatasaray Lisesi, established in 1481 as Galata Saray Enderun-u Hümayunu (Galata Palace Imperial School) and later known as Galatasaray Mekteb-i Sultanisi (Galatasaray School of the Sultans), is the oldest Turkish high school in Istanbul and the second oldest Turkish educational institution in the city. stanbul Lisesi, also commonly known as stanbul Erkek Lisesi (established in 1884), abbreviated EL, is one of the oldest and internationally renowned public high schools of Turkey. Kuleli Military High School is the only military high school in Istanbul, located in Çengelköy district. Another important school in Turkey is Darüafaka which has no similar world-wide providing children opportunities around the Turkey without receiving any money from any of them. This school was built in 1873 by Darüafaka community. The primary person who came up with creating this school and community is Yusuf Ziya Pasha. Darüafaka is located in Maslak.Anadolu Liseleri (Anatolian High Schools) were originally furnished for the Turkish children who returned home from foreign countries, such as the Üsküdar Anadolu Lisesi with German as the primary foreign language and technical instruction in German. Kadköy Anadolu Lisesi which is also commonly known as Kadköy Maarif College is one of the first six special Ministry of Education Colleges established in 1950s in big cities across Turkey.
