Prestige Award
2017 AMCTO Prestige Award – Tony Haddad
Each year, AMCTO honours a member for a
career of outstanding contributions to the
Association, as well as to their community, and
the municipal profession as a whole. This year’s
Prestige Award recipient, Tony Haddad, CMO,
deservedly takes his place among the pantheon
of previous distinguished recipients of AMCTO’s
highest honour.
T
ony Haddad has contributed to the Association and
the municipal profession as a whole in many ways. He
is a mentor to many and is always finding ways of giv-
ing back to the Association and the sector. Tony truly
exemplifies the Prestige award and is very deserving of this
recognition.
Tony’s extensive career in municipal finance and
administration led him to several increasingly progres-
sive leadership positions including as the director, Business
Planning & Budgets for the Region of York,
consultant for the Town of Oakville Finance
Department, director of Financial Services &
assistant commissioner of Corporate Services
for the City of Windsor, and general man-
ager of Transit Windsor. Currently, he is the
Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of
Tecumseh, a position he has held since 2007.
In March of this year, Tony announced his
impending retirement on Sept. 30, 2018. On
the occasion of his announcement, Town of
Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara remarked:
“Tony has been an excellent support to the
town and council during his tenure and his
guidance has allowed us to achieve the suc-
cess we have. Under his leadership
we have experienced positive growth,
increased private and commercial
development, implemented success-
ful long-term financial planning and
received numerous awards and recog-
nition. His replacement will have big
shoes to fill.”
During Tony’s tenure as CAO, the Town of Tecumseh
completed a Life Cycle Financial Model, acquired and devel-
oped Lakewood Park, implemented new and expanded trails
and connections to green space, developed a strategic plan,
several master plans and is an eight-time recipient of the
Distinguished Budget Award from the Government Finance
Officers Association.
Tony’s history of contributions to AMCTO is exemplary, cul-
minating with serving as president of the Association’s Board
of Directors in
2010. His exten-
sive involvement with AMCTO also includes being a member
of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Education and
Research Foundation (MERF), presidential alternate on
the Communications & Marketing Committee, chair of the
Accreditation Task Force, member of the Awards
Review Task Force, CMO Review Committee, an
academic mentor, member of the AMCTO Zone
4 Executive, a CMO mentor, and past chair of the
Professional Development Committee.
Tony has also been a long-time member of
the AMCTO Legislative and Policy Advisory
Committee, contributing significantly with his
influence and insight into the many policy issues
for which AMCTO advocates to government on
behalf of its members.
Tony is also heavily involved in AMCTO’s pro-
fessional development and education programs,
serving as a marker for AMCTO’s Municipal
Administration Program (MAP), and a facilitator
of AMCTO’s corporate training programs in
municipalities across Ontario.
As a member of the Board of Directors
of the Ontario Municipal Administrators
Association (OMAA), Tony has worked to
facilitate a closer relationship between
AMCTO and OMAA to the benefit of the
sector.
Tony has made it a priority throughout his career to will-
ingly share his knowledge and expertise to mentor fellow
municipal professionals, and in particular, thos e new to the
municipal field. Tony has always been a strong advocate
for internship and mentorship opportunities in the sector.
Under his administration at the Town of Tecumseh, Tony
hosted two AMCTO Municipal Management interns and
strongly advocated to the province for the continuance of the
internship program.
