PERSPECTIVE

W
hat qualifies something as life changing? It’s an interesting
question, that of course has no right or wrong answer. Our lives,
whilst to an extent are similar on the surface are actually, as I’ve
found more recently, so unique.
Up until about two weeks ago, I for one didn’t think I would be using that
term ‘Life Changing’ to describe a running event. That was until I had the
privilege of travelling with the Bravehearts 777 event that sees participants
compete in seven marathons, in seven days, in seven states around Australia
to raise funds for the prevention of child sexual abuse via the
charity Bravehearts.
What I witnessed over the 7 days was nothing short of amazing. The
courage, determination and sacrifice on display clearly stemmed from
some very deep motives. Getting to know the group day-by day I learned
their stories and motives for participating; this for me was life changing.
Life changing because it helped me to put things into perspective. Their
ability to overcome what life has thrown at them will stick with me forever
and I thank you all for sharing your participation motives with me. Suddenly,
those work deadlines seem a little less daunting…
As the running season is in full swing, we’ve highlighted some of Australia’s
coolest events for you in our Winter Wonderland feature. I know I’m
preaching to the converted, but sometimes we forget how fortunate we
are to be able to get out there and run. Whatever your motive is, we look
forward to seeing you out and about!
