UNTITLED SERIES

By Angelika Ellis

THE ARTIST

Angelika Ellis is a fine arts photographer with a side order of wedding photography. She grew up in Adelaide, Australia, surrounded by music and art and culture and simply embraced it all. She studied music, visual arts, and photography in the midst of travelling alone to South East Asia with a backpack and an old film SLR. She has organised solo and group exhibitions where her works have been featured in Australia and abroad. She now works every summer at a prestigious performing arts camp in New York, running the photography department. She plans to continue working on personal projects, experimenting with different materials, film and photo-manipulation.

THE ARTWORK

This series, untitled, was created for an exhibition called Raw Miami, featuring young artists who had come to Miami as outsiders, hoping to find a place in their culture. Inspired by Edmund Teske, I used Photoshop to create these surreal pieces about music and a musician’s life in Miami. They portray the elusive classical career and perseverance required by classical musician’s to really make it; representing the hope to achieve and striving for greatness, through all the hardships and rejections that inevitably happen at some point in their lives.
