Travel wrinkle-free
I never bring a travel iron . To avoid wrinkles — and save space — lay clothes flat and roll them up together . Or , place clothing in Ziploc ® bags , sorted either by outfit or by category . Squeeze the air out to keep clothes flat and save space . Ziploc ® bags are also handy for medications , cosmetics , wet clothing and swimsuits , photo and electrical equipment , brochures and ticket stubs , dirty laundry , and more . To maximize space , wrap hairbrushes or your hair dryer in plastic and tuck them inside your shoes .

Consider your carry-on carefully
In addition to things you ’ ll need for your flight — headphones , neck pillow , reading materials — pack a change of clothes and a few essential toiletries and medications . You ’ ll thank yourself in the event of lost luggage .

Pack with a purpose
but are in good condition . After wearing them during your trip , you can clean them and leave them behind in hotel rooms , where the service staff might appreciate them . Or ask your trip leader how to donate them . The clothes get a new life , and your bag gets a little lighter as the trip continues .
Consider bringing clothes or shoes that you no longer need or want ,
A Note from Harriet : If you are traveling with O . A . T ., your trip will include some local visits , and your Trip Experience Leader will have great ideas for how you can help . Solar lamps , soccer balls , and paperback books make great gifts . Many travelers bring several pairs of used reading glasses in different prescriptions to distribute during their trip .
