The Lion’s offence found themselves backed up in their own half. The Silverbacks defence proved too strong again for an O-line that was struggling to hold their blocks. The Silverbacks score their first points of 2014 with a safety after hitting QB Dylan Letoga on a scramble. Score 2-0. After a quick 3 and out from the Silverbacks the Lions showed glimpses of what they are capable of, with a long run on first down but then successive tackle for losses pushed them back and forced the punt. The Lions defence started to step up their game, nearly intercepting the Silverbacks wayward passing and forcing the QB to fumble on his scramble. The Lions recovered, giving the offence a great opportunity to put some points on the scoreboard. Taking their chances an outside run by QB Dylan Letoga nets a small gain before throwing a perfect pass to a wide open Josh Beams on the next play. The Lions score their first points of the competition. Two point conversion is good, Lions lead 8-2 at the half time break. Looking to capitalise on their positive end to the first half the Lions offence started with the ball for the second half. A big run after the catch by WR Welbie Chan plus a penalty on the Silverbacks puts the Lions near halfway. Trying to keep up the momentum a deep pass is picked off by the Silverbacks and returned to give the Silverbacks good field position. The Silverbacks offence starts positively with a quarterback run to the outside that gets a huge gain, putting the Silverbacks into Lions territory. A few plays later the same outside run from the Silverbacks QB has him rushing into the end zone untouched for the Silverbacks first ever touchdown. Two point unsuccessful. Score 8-8. The rest of the second half followed the trend of the first with both defences dominating the line of scrimmage forcing 3 and outs nearly every series. When either QB tried to force the big play they were nearly intercepted. A solid first game by both sides will leave the coaches and players happy with their efforts.
