It is thrilling to see 145 Lasers on the water all in
the same area. With that many boats departing at
the same time, the scene on the water is less chaotic
than you might expect.
The host club (Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club) have
so many volunteers, and the most appreciated are
the dolly helpers… especially the young boy who
rushes down every day after school just to help issue the sailors with a dolly on their return from racing.
Day one and many people are wishing for a bit more
wind – but I’m happy. There are a few little waves
so some surfing is inevitable and fun. By day two
the wind is a little bit stronger, not much, so no excuse for any capsizing. I’m feeling pretty happy
with how I’m going… not coming last, phew!
Actually, the races are pretty tight and places changing all the way to the end. On the radial course,
we’ve got only about 3-4 minutes between the first
and last over the line.
Day three… the wind gods’ revenge! No wishing
for more wind
