ALBERT SAILING CLUB
WINTER REGATTA 2014
John Whelan
It has been a busy month for regattas at the club.
You will have read elsewhere in this edition of the
Women and Girls regatta, and the National Teams
Racing Regatta. But the showpiece event was undoubtedly the annual regatta.
The senior fleet had 52 entrants. The Laser division
was a three way contest between Jonathan Pulham,
James Catton and Dougal Beattie, with Jonathan
eventually winning. Jonathan and James won 6 of
the seven races and neither finished worse than
third.
Rod Caddaye, our hard working club captain,
fronted again to run this regatta after having spent 4
days at the National Teams Racing Regatta.
The event was run with two fleets, each having its
own start boat. The junior fleet had 37 boats sailing
and was particularly well supported by the Minnow
association.
The first division was the Laser 4.7 fleet and the
second division was entirely Minnows and Optis.
Four races were completed on each of Saturday and
Sunday with some great close racing.
In the Impulse division Walter Green won every
race except one, and won that division ahead of
Luke Tupper. Like the Lasers it was a close contest
between three boats with Geoff Saliba eventually
winning ahead of Anthony Berger and Bruce
Abbott.
The Mirrors had their state championships which
were won by Andy McIntyre and Angus McIntyre.
