14 Annual Report University of Missouri- Columbia Cardiovascular Medicine Letter From The Director The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine made outstanding progress in 2011-2013 in its core missions of patient care, education, research, and service. Our faculty members are nationally recognized for their expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disorders. We are deeply committed to providing cardiovascular care that is comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based. Our primary practice sites are University Hospital and the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. We also staff cardiology outreach clinics in Marshall, Boonville, Macon, Fulton, and Jefferson City. In 2011-2013 we saw considerable growth and development of cardiovascular services, as outlined in the Overview of Clinical Programs and Services section below. Division faculty members also pride themselves on their commitment to our teaching mission. Our learners include medical students, medical residents, cardiology fellows, practicing physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Over the past 3 years our group also continued its tradition of excellence in research and scholarship, publishing scores of papers and conducting a wide array of extramurally funded research projects. Lastly, Cardiovascular Medicine faculty members continued to serve our university, community, region, and profession through a breadth of activities, ranging from educational presentations to lay audiences to serving on editorial boards, scientific peer review committees, and major professional committees, including those of the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. Division faculty members strongly value their relationships with patients and referring physicians, and we look forward to meeting William P.
