Left to Right: Ida Rose Sylvester, David Salinero, Anthea Chung, Jamil Shaikh, Jerry Steach, Robert Cox, Pamela Baird, Carol Donahue, Past President Nick Perry. Melanie Kaye was unable to attend.
Most of the MVHA board members took a break from organizational duties to meet socially for a glass of wine at Rootstock on Castro. Zoom meetings are convenient for the board, but cannot replace the camaraderie of in-person gatherings. Past president Nick Perry was able to break away from his home base in San Francisco. Nick authored two books in the Arcadia Images of America series. Mountain View features historic images of our city, and Mountain View Then and Now compares past and more current photos of local sites. These books and others will be available at neighborhood picnics and ice cream socials this summer. Look for the MVHA table at these gatherings. We’ d love to hear remembrances of your neighborhood and our city.

After years of restoration work, Hangar One has reopened.
A ceremony was held on March 20 for local civic leaders and elected officials.
On March 23, members of the“ Save Hangar One” group and other community members attended a reopening ceremony.
Both groups were able to experience the amazing transformation of the historic building. Originally built in 1933, the updated version looks very similar to the original, but with more skylights that brighten the interior. Toxic contamination was removed from the area.
The impressive structure spans 1,133 feet in length, 308 feet in width, and rises to a height of 198 feet. It is one of the largest free-standing structures in the world.
The restoration was done by Planetary Ventures, a division of Google. You can learn more about the project at https:// www. nasa. gov / centers-and-facilities / ames / hangar-one-restoration-project /
